Lighter of LivesFoundation.

A website for a Nigerian charity working to put out-of-school children back in the classroom. They do the real work; I designed the place where people find it.

Role
UI/UX Designer, solo
Scope
Visual identity, layout system, 5 pages
Tools

Year
2025
Lighter of Lives home page: the headline Empowering Lives, Transforming Futures, a Make a Donation button, and four tall portrait slices of smiling children

01The brief

Every pixel in service of a bigger mission.

01The organisation
A Nigerian charity focused on getting out-of-school children back into education.
02The brief
A full website that builds trust, communicates the mission, and turns visits into donations and volunteers.
03The challenge
More than 500,000 out-of-school children in Lagos State. The foundation needed a presence worthy of that urgency.
04My part
End-to-end, solo: visual identity, layout system and all five pages, designed and delivered free of charge.

02First impression

Feel the problem first, then find a way to help.

The home page had one job: make a visitor who knows nothing about the foundation feel the weight of the problem, then make it easy to do something about it. Real faces, clear numbers and a single primary action carry that, in that order.

About section: Together in compassion, stronger in community, beside four purple cards: 5+ schools visited, 50+ school bags, 63+ school books, 100+ lives impacted
Impact, at a glance
Proof before persuasion: the foundation's numbers sit beside its promise, in the same purple as every call to action.
Our Works: three project cards with real photographs: paying school fees, school supplies, and a school-building initiative
Our works
Every image is a real photograph of the children and the work. Stock photography would have put distance between the visitor and the mission.

03The site

Five pages, one coherent story.

Every page opens with the same lavender hero and a single clear heading, then gets out of the way of the photographs. Visitors always know where they are, and every page ends with a way to help.

Home page: hero, ambition, impact numbers, our works, photo gallery, partners, contact form and FAQ
Five pages, fully explorable: switch tabs, then scroll inside the window.01 / 05
A donation campaign card: Our Charity Supplies Books and School Bags to Schools, with 45,254 naira raised of a 100,000 naira goal, beside a photo of pupils holding up their new books
Donation transparency
Progress in plain numbers, next to the children it's for. The campaign is honest about how far it still has to go.

04Decisions

The choices that shaped the site.

  1. 01Purple as the emotional anchor.Purple carries dignity, wisdom and compassion, the qualities the foundation stands for. Lavender tints and soft purple grounds keep it warm and approachable, never corporate.
  2. 02Real photographs over illustration.Every image shows the children, volunteers and team themselves. Real faces close the distance that stock imagery would have opened.
  3. 03One hero pattern on every page. Each page opens with the same lavender hero and large heading. The repetition is deliberate: wherever a visitor lands, they know where they are.
  4. 04Honest about the money. The Works page shows what has been raised against each goal. Donors want to know their money goes somewhere real, and honesty earns more trust than polish.
  5. 05Three ways in, not one.Not every visitor is ready to give. Donate, Volunteer and Advocate are three clear doors, and the lighter ones often lead to the deeper commitments.
  6. 06Answers where questions happen.FAQs sit on both the Home and Contact pages, catching early visitors and people about to reach out alike, so fewer questions need a reply.
Designing for free for a cause you believe in is one of the purest design exercises there is: the brief is the mission, and every decision has to earn its place.
